FANCY Meeting TWICE Under the Stage

If you think arena acoustics are loud from the bleachers, try listening to them through a headset while standing standby before a TWICE show. The bass literally shakes your teeth.

When I first got the gig for the North American leg of this tour, my absolute biggest challenge was figuring out how to prep. They are the IT girl group, and they have been dominating the industry for over a decade. When I sat down to study their material, inside jokes, and massive discography, my brain went into immediate overload. I was literally sitting at my desk thinking, "Where do I even begin? Do I need to go all the way back and binge-watch Sixteen just to understand the lore?!"

But stepping into the venue changed everything. From the very first soundcheck to the final bow of the night, interpreting for the girls was pure fun.

The catch with TWICE is that they don’t just stick to a rigid script. They make every single segment unique, spontaneous, and personal to whatever city they are in. For me in the hot seat, that meant I was constantly on the edge of my seat, completely unable to predict what they were going to say next. It’s a terrifying rush for an interpreter, but it’s also the best part of the job. Because nothing was rehearsed, every single message they delivered came straight from the heart.

This run was also deeply special on a personal level. So many of my friends came out to the shows because they’ve been fans of the girls for a while. Plus, it was the very first show my mom and my sister ever came to see me actually in action, which meant the world to me.

Beyond the production itself, the entire backstage environment was just unmatched. We had such a great relationship with the dancers. They were all incredibly talented, energetic, and genuinely so kind. At one point, one of the dancers even surprised us with a box of Krispy Kreme and a sweet letter. It's those little moments of connection that completely change the vibe of a long tour run. Even now, back in my room, I still find myself listening through the tour setlist, completely reminiscing about the whole experience.
